Now what? Fred Reish on the future of DOL’s fiduciary rule

With 2017 in full swing, there may not be a topic more closely followed by advisors and financial professionals than the Fiduciary Duty Rule, also known as the Conflict of Interest Rule. In this episode, we will discuss the rule and make sense of the drama and controversy that has followed it from its inception under the Obama Administration last year to the February 3rd, 2017 Presidential Memorandum that directed the Department of Labor to reexamine the rule.

Our guest is Fred Reish, partner in the law firm of Drinker Biddle & Reath. Ben Jones spoke with Fred over the phone about the history of this rule, the intentions behind it, and the implications for the future.

In this episode:

  • Why the rule has caused controversy
  • What the rule means for plans, participants, and advisors
  • What Trump’s ruling actually does
  • How the world looks if it’s repealed
  • How advisors could benefit no matter the outcome
